Truly Handmade Wines

made in our "Nano" Winery in Napa Valley, California
The Smallest Freestanding Bonded Winery in the United States*

Patricia Howe Wines produces Truly HandMade fine wines.  Our specialty is sparkling wine, made in the traditional method of Champagne, using the classic varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Pinot gris, and Pinot Meunier.  And in the true tradition of sparkling winemakers familiar with the champagne method, the ability to make good red Pinot Noirs runs hand-in-hand with sparkling wine production, so we are proud to also offer still wines from this noble grape.
Our wines are Truly HandMade, not "handcrafted" like all the large corporate wines claim.  The only electrical power used in our production is temperature control.  Grapes are handpicked, hand pressed or crushed, transferred with gravity or gas pressure, and bottled, corked, labeled, and foiled by hand.
Sparkling wines are hand riddled and hand disgorged, hand dosed, and hand corked and wired.

What happens to wines which don't fit into our program?  We deliberately make more base wines for our sparkling wines than we need, to allow us to carefully select and blend the ideal wines.  That leaves us with small volumes of fine Napa Valley wines with no place in our program.  Larger wineriers would sell these remnants on the bulk wine market, and so would we...except who want to buy such small volumes?  The perfect solution is a win/win.  I get to do more fermentations, and you get an extrememby unique and delicious result...our Truly Handmade Vinegars.

* 104 square feet of tightly organized and optimized bottle storage, barrels, fermentors, equipment, and finished goods.  If anyone else has something smaller (hey, we are talking FREESTANDING, not Mondavi's glass closet at the Napa Marketplace, which is cool, but not in the same category) let me know and we can link to each other sites and start a support group.

True, I don't have a tasting room, so Calaboose Cellars  (300 sq ft) in NC wins on that score.

Carneros Pinot noir wines

16019 Carneros Pinot Noir 2008
Some say "Burgundian" when referring to food friendly Pinot noirs, but I prefer "Champenoise".  The 2008 reminds me of the red wines from Bouzy in the warmer part of the Champagne region.  Aged in French Oak for 10 months.  Black cherry, tangerine peel, sweet floral, and black anise aromas with a good supporting structure in the palate.
Bottled August 2009
700 bottles
Released Dec 2009

16019 Carneros Pinot Noir 2007

Our Carneros Pinot Noir 2007 is a reflection of Patricia Howe's particular bias towards Pinot Noir's most delicate expression.  This wine is a soft, food friendly, elegant and approachable wine made by hand in "nano" scale proportions.
Bottled August 2008
200 bottles
Released Nov 2008  SOLD OUT
